I don't see many people instantly re-clicking resubscribe after unsubscribing. I wouldn't.

Are you sure the JS will work when the newsletter is displayed in actual emails?

This is for a web version of the newsletters. I thought it was obvious.

I would imagine this is where the 'unsubscribe' link in the email newsletter would bring you if you did want to use this for a classic newsletter.
