That matches my experience. I finished a long distance triathlon once and a whole year was dedicated for this single great day. I joined clubs and met a lot of people who trained for Ironman races. Most of them have been really nice and down to earth. But when it comes to winning age groups or getting a ticket to Kona you run into a lot of ego-driven money waving guys. I always refused to call myself a triathlet. I did Triathlon and for me that made a difference.

You train for one (1) year to merely finish a triathlon and then rag on people that are looking for something greater than ticking a box?

If this was a computer game, people would deem you a "casual".

What's wrong with being a casual gamer?

Nothing. It's the feigned ignorance and offhand dismissal of other peoples passions.

Yes, it took me one year of training for a casual daylight-finish. You know, it's not that easy.

From a sports perspective all of the age groupers have my deep respect. Again, most of them are nice guys. But this sport also attracts people I do not like. Too loud, too much bragging, too stylish.

I find the average triathlete more down to earn than the average programmer or hacker news user. YMMV.

Same here in Germany. Most of the "Freifunk" communnities are running on TP-Link routers.

This one is not about management.

There is no way you can silently stop working and turn your focus on private side projects. At least you need to talk to your coworkers and your management about running out of work. It´s up to you.

It doesn't even matter what he was doing with his time. If his employer wasn't satisfied with what he was producing it's in their best interest to let their employee know they need to correct the situation.

Firing him means they were in panic mode because they were lazy and decided not to manage their employees.

I'm not saying that the employer didn´t make mistakes. But it is always the same and so many people are doing it wrong.

If you are in a situation that needs to change, take action. This is your responsibility and it does not matter who fucked up this thing.

I stumbled over it last week. Being in Germany I prever legal ways to watch it and ended up on Amazon. After watching the first episode I was so hooked that I bought all 4 available Episodes and had a long night. Now I am waiting for the 5th to show up but Amazon does not give a hint when it will be availabe.

"He´s too old for a long password. I must be missing something."

I love it.

I guess that is what you call a PR disaster. To me it looks like Google is shutting down services randomly.

I can´t see anything good in taking the company down. People are cheating, they always did. It's not illegal, they made a personal decision. Why is it a bad thing to run a platform for these people?

The ads.

Because it encourages the behavior and even makes it seem socially acceptable to some degree when it isn't.

I really like the way the basics are covered. Easy to follow even with no strong mathematical background.

There ist a student whom I try to attract to the world of programming. I will point him to this site hoping that he gets attracted.

When it comes to algorithms I do not know many good ressources to start with, this one is an exception.

You ask for full name, workplace, job title, hometown, email and you want to send this information to "everyone"? I don't know :-)

I think this a good place to say thank you for you're work on the Go Rethink driver. This is a clear written easy to follow and effective peace of code.

Thank you very much! I hope to have an update to the Go driver which supports RethinkDB v2.0 within a couple of hours.

I would like to thank you as well! I didn't really have any time to work on rethinkgo after I made the first version, thanks for doing such a good job with gorethink.
