the USA soft power stopped working so they resorted to offshore warfare to force the non compliant governments into lock step

> the USA soft power stopped working so they resorted to offshore warfare to force the non compliant governments into lock step

When has US soft power ever worked with Cuba?

the USA still has a military base there and also took in a lot of boat people

> the USA still has a military base there

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guantanamo_Bay_Naval_Base:"Sin... taking power in 1959, the Cuban government has consistently protested against the U.S. presence on Cuban soil, arguing that the base was imposed on Cuba by force and is illegal under international law."

> and also took in a lot of boat people

Explain how that gave the US any "soft power" influence over the Cuban government.

If anything, that opposite effect of enabling more anti-US hostility on the part of the Cuban government, as it give the regime an escape valve for domestic dissent, making its rule more secure.

> is illegal under international law

Here is a nice little brain teaser…What law would that be? And who would or could enforce said law? And if said law cannot be enforced, is it actually a law at all?

> Explain how that gave the US any "soft power" influence over the Cuban government.

Pretty sure the Castro bros regime knowing that there is nearly a half million people who are specifically “non-fans” of the current Cuban government, but are people patriotic towards Cuba, with family still in Cuba…who are sitting 100 miles off the Cuban shores would factor into cuban government decision making as it relates to US relations.

AI is an organized intellectual property rip off in the name of advancing human learning but the commercialization of the products seem like legal licenses to steal.

Technology is a side effect and distraction from the real problems of matter and the ones which matter. Democracy is not a guarantee of making the right choices nor is theocracy nor is any form of government. We are driven blindly ever forward by our nature to survive the following common factors: hunger, thirst and exposure.

AI is awfully inexact and insists on being right about it

AI is not going to reduce human hubris in fact it is making it stronger.

I found a reference to this story while examining the new cases on security.microsoft.com and had a funny conversation with Claude about it and then checked to see if hacker news had an entry on it and found none so here is the full report from Oasis security

for the record, I am a furniture designer class 1985 Primrose Center and I made a table without a top to demonstrate this point: https://www.jeisch.com/img/furniture/tab_no_top_1988.jpg and another one which is a table which is a holder for a painting: https://www.jeisch.com/img/furniture/tab_pointy_1987.jpg the painting which is being held in the pointy table is this: https://www.jeisch.com/img/paintings/oil_martyr_1988.jpg but it slides in and out basically it is a horizontal holder a painting.

Now I need a switch for my smartphone and my computer too.

Huge brick and mortar corporations hedge their bets and do not go all in without a generation passing into retirement on the board of directors.

The point is that this may be different, they may have no choice. As they (along with the country) die, they will have no logical plan of action but to go all in.

pessimistic view point worst case scenario: humanity will survive in plexiglass domes with underground bunkers and we will send out AI robots into space to seed humans on other likely planets
