Maybe Mythos told them to quit using zig because it is not safe

You don't need Mythos for that, just open the bun issue tracker and filter for "segmentation fault".

There was a boat to jump on? To gain what?

Uh, billions of dollars? If you bought or mines bitcoin when it was new and sold it today, you're now at least a hundred millionaire.

From the pricing page of deepseek:

(3) The deepseek-v4-pro model is currently offered at a 75% discount, extended until 2026/05/31 15:59 UTC.

Was this taken into account when reviewing the model?

The article quotes the full price.

obviously everyone subsidizes for user acquisition - after all people need to be coaxed to test your model, claude code subscriptions come to me one.

DeepSeek pro is 65/86% cheaper (i/o tokens) in subsidized pro vs pro and 91/97% cheaper with current subsidies.

Flash vs Sonnet 4.6 is 95/98%

Yeah even the Chinese open models have a problem that inference costs for these aren't that cheap. The only way out for the AI bubble collapse is simply more efficient hardware at lower costs and infrastructure setup downtime.

It’s just an introduction price to speed up adoption for the rest of the month, hardly worth mentioning compared to subsidized coding plans.

We know DS runs profitable, they also indicate in their paper they expect prices to drop as they get access to the next gen Huawei cards.

You can imagine the GPUs cost as fixed, then your costs becomes energy. Efficient hardware and lower costs will pop the bubble faster. The only way out is profit.

What prevents these no tech tractors to be electric?

Almost certainly it's energy density for long running, high load usage.

If a family car energy usage is 1x, then a light duty truck is about 1.5x, and a heavy duty truck doing hauling or towing is about 4x. A medium sized farm tractor would probably be 20x or more.

In that light, it's not hard to see how cars and light trucks could fare well with today's battery energy density, while heavy duty trucks are at the limits. For a tractor, it's not even close.

I do think we'll see smaller tractors going electric in about 10-15 years.

For small tractors many only use them for an hour per day - often mowing the lawn once a week. I have used mine all day cutting wood - and only but 15 minutes on the engine (the rest was me running the chain saw of loading something by hand).

Which is to say an electric tractor would be great for me, but for most farmers useless.

Heavy duty trucks run well on electric in the EU at least, as the work time regulation make for regular charging and lower speed limits for trucks makes the consumption manageable.

They get used in burst cycles -- like 10 days straight at harvest time, other times not started for months. Battery cost per kwh used is very low amortized over its full lifespan, but if you only use it to 1% of its capability your costs are now 100x higher.

Now, hang a high voltage wire down from a big-ass catenary, so you don't need batteries, and it'll be cheaper upfront and in use, but nobody does that because of 1. safety 2. if everybody did it the grid would need upgrades

October to April in Saskatchewan.

Similarly I think some work should be done on the Russian alphabet too,

уоэа (uoea) юёея -> ÿöëä

And do something about all those bees : ВБбьыъ

I agree with you. Cats outdoors are a nightmare to local species. This super predator kills everything and is already responsible for the disappearance of so many species of birds lizards and other mice. I do love cats too but they have not their place outdoors, it’s like releasing an atomic bomb on local ecosystems. Their only place outdoors should be where they originated from where food is scarce

Super predator lol. They are ultra small fluffs.

You've never actually encountered an actual feral cat living wild after several generations, have you?

If only people had better alternatives to car ownership, such as reliable, fast public transport, e-bikes, nearby shops, working from home etc… I would bet that car ownership would not be necessary for 80% of the current car-owners population. And maybe depreciation would not be that of a concern?

This take is a bit delusional, at least in the US. Not everyone is childless and living downtown.

Opa language 2012, it was a typed nextjs before its time.

http://opalang.org/

I think the market was still skeptical about nodejs on the server at the time but other than that I don’t really know why it didn’t take off

I came to say Opa too. I liked the language but the meteor-like framework it was bundled with, while nice for prototyping, was a pain to work around when it didn't do what you needed.

That said, frameworks were all the buzz back in the day, so the language alone probably wouldn't have gone anywhere without it.

Launching under AGPL was the kiss of death. They eventually went MIT, but the developers it steered away, probably never gave it a second chance

There are cheaper solutions than japanese toilet, bidet or handhelds - using a bottle of water, you just need a good capacity, and need to refill before or after the deed. Aim at your anus and stretch your asscheeks with your other hand and do circle and robbing on your skin while emptying the water with the hand holding the bottle. It is a bit technical the first time, a bit disgusting but fecal mater is 100% washable so your hands and anus will be all clean and your anus will thank you for the rest of the day. But you need enough capacity for the water. You can also use soap and do two round while emptying each halves of the bottle. First round remove all fecal, then soap (use a gentle soap!) then empty the remaining of the bottle. You don’t really need soap though because the results with water only is already infinitely better than with toilet paper. You can use the toilet paper to dry your skin or use a small toilet exclusively allocated for this usage - if you are home take a brief cat shower and aim exclusively the anus. A bit more cumbersome because you need to remove your clothes and shoes if you wear them

And it takes 360ms to get an answer from their server (not fulltext, quicksearch api endpoint). And 2ms to download the results on the network.

Is this the instant search that you are advertising on your website?

V1.14, released yesterday [1], ships with a search embedding cache. Most of the time you see is spent waiting for an OpenAI embedding answer. We also just shipped composite embedders to reduce the network latency when you need to respond quickly to user searches (by running embedders on the Meilisearch server) but still use external APIs to index many documents in batches. Note that it can only work with open-source embedders, the ones HuggingFace serves.
